How Is Vaginal Tightening Surgery Performed?

One of the general problems of many of our patients who come to us is sexual pleasure and satisfaction problems due to vaginal enlargement. The vaginal tightening operations we perform on these patients give very positive sexual results.

What Is Vaginal Tightening Surgery?

Vaginal tightening operations are surgical procedures designed to narrow the vaginal canal, eliminate vaginal deformities, bladder and bowel prolapse problems and surgically correct vaginal plane disorders that develop following trauma such as childbirth. After labiaplasty operations, these are the “genital aesthetic” surgeries most appreciated by patients.

Vaginal tightening operations are also known as “surgical vaginal rejuvenation”, “surgical vaginal tightening” or “vaginoplasty”. In this article, you’ll find answers to many questions such as what vaginal tightening surgery is and its applicability, for whom it is intended and the conditions required for it to be performed. This article is a compilation of the questions most frequently asked by you.

What Causes Vaginal Hypertrophy?

One of the general questions asked by many patients who come to us is the cause of vaginal hypertrophy. The most common causes are normal childbirth and, above all, difficult and traumatic childbirth.

Situations such as vacuum extraction, forceps-assisted deliveries, very large babies, difficult deliveries, home births, the opening of stitches after the birth of a baby, etc., can all lead to vaginal hypertrophy.

The vagina may dilate more than normal in situations such as forceps-assisted deliveries, very large babies, difficult deliveries, home deliveries and the opening of stitches after delivery. In other words, even if the delivery was by Caesarean section, the vagina may enlarge as a result of the pregnancy.

In addition, the frequency of intercourse, gynaecological interventions such as abortion and advanced age are also among the factors responsible for vaginal enlargement. The fact that a person’s connective tissue is genetically weaker than normal, and that they haven’t done enough pelvic floor exercises in time, also facilitates the onset of the problem.

Vaginal enlargement can be observed in women who have never given birth, even between the ages of 18 and 20, due to insufficient collagen structure for genetic reasons.

Other factors cause vaginal enlargement:

  • Gaining then losing weight very quickly,
  • Smoking and alcoholism,
  • Inadequate diet,
  • Intense stress,
  • Insomnia,
  • Absorption disorders in the intestine,
  • Masturbation by inserting too many sex toys into the vagina can be counted among the many causes.

How Do I Know If Vaginal Tightening Surgery Is Necessary?

Loss of sensation during intercourse, loosening and widening, difficulty reaching orgasm, expressions and behaviors expressed or implied by you or your partner are important clues. In addition, in the case of age- or birth-related processes, “decreased pleasure during intercourse compared to the past, difficulty reaching orgasm or the inability to reach orgasm, decreased sensitivity of the vagina” are other symptoms.

How Is Vaginal Tightening Surgery Performed At Our Clinic?

In the vaginal tightening (vaginoplasty) procedures performed in our clinic, an incision is made in the entire vaginal canal (approx. 7-8 cm), so that the ENTIRE vagina is repaired to the MAXIMUM LEVEL possible.

Bringing the muscles together also makes the procedure more permanent. During vaginal tightening operations, the area between the vagina and the anus, generally referred to as the perineum, is also corrected (perineoplasty operation). The vagina is thus repaired both inside and out. Excessive skin folds in the perineum and scars from childbirth can also be removed in this way.

In patients with urinary prolapse (cystocele), the anterior wall of the vagina is also repaired simultaneously. In this way, both the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina are repaired and maximum narrowing is achieved. Urinary incontinence problems can also be eliminated in the same session. Laser vaginal tightening can also be performed without surgery.

Laser Vaginal Tightening

Laser vaginal tightening operations, known as “laser vaginal rejuvenation”, are non-surgical and transparent. No anesthesia is required. It is based on the principle of inserting a vaginal ultrasound-like head into the vagina and stimulating collagen production through the thermal effect of laser light emitted into the tissue. However, it is not as effective as surgical tightening, and the same treatment must be repeated at certain intervals.

What Is The Scientific Evidence?

As numerous studies have shown, female patients’ FSFI (Female Sexual Function Index) scores increase after vaginal tightening and rectocele repair. This is associated with greater sexual satisfaction in male partners.

Is Vaginoplasty An Obstacle To Normal Childbirth?

No, it does not. Vaginoplasty surgeries do not prevent a person from giving birth normally afterwards. Women who have already undergone surgical or laser vaginal tightening have no problem giving birth normally. However, the vagina will dilate again following a normal delivery. For this reason, patients who have undergone vaginoplasty are more likely to be recommended a Caesarean section as a mode of delivery in the future. Or we recommend that they prefer this type of operation after they have completed all their deliveries.

Can The Vagina Dilate Again In a Woman Who Has Undergone Vaginal Tightening?

If you don’t give birth normally or by Caesarean section, the vagina will no longer enlarge. Age-related vaginal enlargement is practically non-existent. The results of vaginal tightening surgery are permanent. Only if the person’s connective tissue is very poor, or if collagen-protecting measures are not taken (such as smoking, alcohol, continuing poor eating habits), will enlargement occur over time.

Is Vaginoplasty Suitable For People Who Have Not Given Birth?

Yes, vaginoplasty operations are not an obstacle to childbirth for people who intend to have a normal delivery at a later date. Vaginal tightening operations pose no problems in terms of conception, the pregnancy process or childbirth.

Can Vaginal Tightening Be Performed During Menstruation?

Although there are no medical obstacles, it is preferable to perform the operation during a non-menstrual period, for reasons of hygiene and to ensure that the patient feels comfortable. If you think you will have your period on the day of your appointment, it is possible to bring it forward with the help of medication if you inform us in advance.

Is There Any Pain During And After The Vaginal Tightening Operation?

No, there is no pain. Thanks to the anesthetic drugs administered during and after the operation, our patients feel no pain. Slight transient tingling that appears the day after the operation and lasts a few days can be comfortably controlled with the analgesics used.

For the first few days, pain in the form of pressure around the anus will normally be felt. Again, a few days after the operation, our patients can continue their social and professional lives. Simple analgesics are all that’s needed.

Will I Bleed After The Operation?

Bleeding in the form of leakage for a few days after the operation is normal. This is at a level that will never bother you. Thanks to the ice compression we recommend you apply after the operation, your bleeding, oozing and oedema (swelling) will be as minimal as possible.

How Many Days After Vaginoplasty Can I Go Back To Work?

This generally depends on the extent of the operation and the intensity of your work. In general, our patients can return to work after 3 to 7 days. This time frame also depends on the intensity of your work.
