What Is An Implant?

Dental implants are titanium screws that mimic the natural tooth root. They are placed into the jawbone, and after a healing period, a porcelain crown is placed on top. Dental implants have been used in dentistry since the 1980s. When there is a missing tooth, it became possible to create a porcelain tooth without cutting the teeth in front of and behind the gap. Many of our patients have been able to get rid of removable dentures and have fixed porcelain teeth.

How Is The Implant Procedure Performed?

The patient’s healthy gums and suitable jawbone are evaluated. If there are no systemic obstacles, the implant treatment can begin. There is no age limit for implants; they can be applied to elderly patients as well. If an implant operation can be performed immediately after tooth extraction, the presence of any inflammation is checked. If there is no inflammation, the procedure can start immediately; otherwise, it waits for the inflammation to heal.

The implant procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. If the patient has no special conditions, local anesthesia (the same as used for fillings) is preferred. The fusion of the jawbone with the screw is completed within 2-4 months. The stitches need to be removed one week after the operation. A temporary tooth can be made immediately after the implant operation.

What Are The Advantages?

Implants prevent bone resorption in the implanted area, which is the most significant advantage. In fact, getting implants is an investment in the future because significant bone resorption occurs in the non-functioning bone. Under bridge structures, full and removable dentures, bone resorption always continues.

When making a bridge, the teeth next to the gap need to be cut. In addition, the teeth are connected to each other in a bridge. With implants, there is no need to cut healthy teeth, and most importantly, the teeth can be made one by one (just like natural teeth).

Implant-supported dentures provide the most natural function and aesthetics closest to natural teeth. Implants increase chewing force and improve retention in dentures.

Chewing force increases, and better chewing of food leads to the elimination of digestion problems.

The taste of food is better perceived. This sense is reduced in denture prostheses. Nerve tissue forms around implants, just like natural teeth, which allows the perception of food.
